Cowboy Church FAQs

What denomination is Cowboy Church?

Although Cowboy Church is affiliated with the Baptist General Convention of Texas, it functions as an interdenominational fellowship gladly welcoming anyone who has accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, been scripturally baptized by immersion, and accepts the basic teachings of Christianity into its membership.

Do I have to be a cowboy to attend Cowboy Church?

Absolutely not! Although many cowboys, cowgirls, and other horse enthusiasts attend Cowboy Church, our members come from every background and walk of life. If you would rather wear jeans than dress up, if you enjoy country or blue grass gospel music, if you like rubbing elbows with plain down to earth people, and if you want clear simple sermons you can actually understand, you will love Cowboy Church.

What happens at a Cowboy Church worship service?

A typical Cowboy Church worship service consists of the singing country praise songs, country style, performances by one or more of the Cowboy Church bands, a time of special music and testimony provided by a soloist or guest band, and the preaching of the Word of God. In addition, it is not unusual to have baptisms after a service. The entire service generally is 1hr and 15 min. Some pictures of a Cowboy Church worship service can be seen by clicking the “photo gallery” link.

How should I dress at Cowboy Church?

The majority of people at Cowboy Church will wear boots and jeans, many will wear hats or caps, some will wear shorts, and a few will wear suits or dresses. All of these are appropriate. The bottom line: wear whatever is comfortable to you. There is no pretense here. The person in shorts and a ball cap is as welcome as the one in a suit, and the really neat thing is, no one will notice the difference. At Cowboy Church we make ourselves at home with God and each other.

What are the business hours of the Cowboy Church office?

Generally, there is someone manning the phones from 8-5 M-F. Jerri Ann is the church secretary and deals with all general issues, including membership and finances.

What does Cowboy Church believe?

We believe the Bible is the word of God.

We believe in one God that exists in three persons. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God who died to save men from their sins.

We believe that men are saved by grace alone through faith in Jesus Christ.

We believe that baptism is the means by which people are to publicly profess their faith in Christ and identify themselves with His death, burial, and resurrection. For more about our beliefs concerning baptism click here.

How is Cowboy Church organized and how does it conduct business?

At Cowboy Church, we believe that those who get their hands dirty should also be the ones making the decisions. Toward that end, Cowboy Church is organized around a multitude of ministry teams. Each team has its own budget and makes its own decisions. However, each team is accountable to one or more Lay Pastors, who in turn are accountable to the Pastor and Elders. Each year the church elects three Elders who, along with the pastor, provide oversight of all the church’s ministries.

How Can I become a member of Cowboy Church?

There are three ways to become a member of Cowboy Church:

By statement of faith. This means that you have accepted Christ and been biblically baptized by immersion (i.e. dunked), but are unable to acquire a letter of church membership from another church. In this case, we will simply accept your word that you are a baptized believer and add you to our membership.

By letter. This means that you have accepted Christ, been biblically baptized by immersion (i.e. dunked), and are a member of another church. In such a case, you may request that Cowboy Church write to your previous church and request that they transfer your church membership to us.

By baptism. This means that you have accepted Christ as your savior and desire to be baptized. Because deciding to follow Christ is such a significant decision, Cowboy Church does not believe that any person can make this choice for another. For this reason, Cowboy Church does NOT accept infant baptism. For more information about what Cowboy Church believes about baptism, click here.

How do I express my desire to become a member of Cowboy Church?

At Cowboy Church, we do not require people to walk down in front of the church to request membership. Instead, we use “visitor cards.” These are simple forms that you can fill out to request membership in Cowboy Church by statement, letter, or baptism. These forms may then be dropped in either of our offering boxes. A Lay Pastor or Elder will contact you to confirm your information and address any questions you may have. Visitor slips are always available on the tables where you make your offerings. They can also be acquired from the church office M-F.

Does Cowboy Church have programs for my children?

Yes. On Sunday morning  we have a Little Buckaroo Bible study for kids 3 years old through 5th grade.
